quartetReg, Wilf and Cissy are retired former opera singers who often worked together, living in Beecham House, a home for gifted musicians. The musicians and singers living in the house put on a gala concert on Giuseppe Verdi's birthday every year. Finances threaten closure of the home, but proceeds from the concert hold hope for a revival. The arrival of Reg's ex-wife, Jean, has old rivalries and theatrical temperaments flaring up again and it becomes unclear if the show will or will not go on. Three of the four are keen to recreate the third act quartet "Bella figlia dell'amore" from Rigoletto and one is not.
